Sleepy in NOLA

Trying to fight off a cold that is being very persistent. I am pretty tired today. Going to call it a night but will post more tomorrow.

The India House Hostel

OK, so I know I have been here 5 days now and I haven't written anything about my first experience in a hostel. I am behind on my posts because I did not have my power cord. Monday night, I realized that my power cord was in the bag that I checked into storage at the airport (how frustrating :-). Needless to say, I had to go to the airport the following day (Tuesday) to get it, along with some other items I forgot (like my shower shoes). My first impression of The India House was...this looks similar to the pictures, but not so much! I walked into my dorm room and was a bit shocked by all the clutter. Determined to make it work, I decided to unpack my bags and start getting creative. I placed my undergarments and socks in a milk crate, divided by a shoe box lid. I then grabbed the two remaining lockers. In one I put all my toiletries and books, and filled the other full of clothes. The facility is not bad, there is a dining room with 3 refrigerators, a living room with a TV and computer (15 min for $1.00...glad I brought my laptop), full kitchen, an outdoor pool and gathering area. Other than it being a bit corky, it's not too bad. I have met many friendly people. The first person I met was Natalie, a 23 year old who has been here for 3 months, then Carla. Carla was one of the first responders after Hurricane Katrina, she works in the medical field and said that after her first trip here, she cant seem to stay away. She has been living at the hostel for a year (crazy!). On Tuesday, I met a girl named Isabella (shes a hoot) from Australia and we have spent most our down time together. And on Wednesday, I met a guy named Lenny who has been here for 10 months. All in all, I can say its been a pretty decent experience. I’ve posted a few pictures for you too see. Enjoy!

Louis Armstrong Airport

When I arrived in New Orleans, I decided to put one of my bags in airport storage as I wasn’t sure how much space I would have at the hostel. As I’m headed towards baggage claim, I hear the sweet sounds of a jazz band. At last, I am here. After 2 months of planning, my first true New Orleans experience! I caught the airport shuttle to the India House Hostel where I will be staying for 2 weeks. On our way, we drove down Bourbon St...I must say, a bit shocking. :-)

Headed to New Orleans

4 days since I left Seattle for New Orleans and what a whirlwind it was. I started out on Monday. After a night of packing, Im finally ready to head to the airport. I arrive at SeaTac just before 5 am and my plane boards at 5:20 am. While dropping my bags off at the counter, I discover that one of my bags is 10 pounds over the limit. Hurrying to get rid of 10 pounds, I pull a few items out and leave them behind (thanks, Mom, for sticking around). I finally get to the security line and it is longer than I have ever seen. I wasnt sure I was going to make my plane, but I arrived at the gate just as they were boarding. THANK GOSH!
